Authorities have identified Adam Paul Gromotsky, a 22-year-old UC Santa Barbara student from Dana Point, as the individual found deceased on June 15, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

Gromotsky was found near San Joaquin Villages, the university’s student dorm complex about one mile from campus is located at 650 Phelps Road and caters to third- and fourth-year undergraduates.

The incident unfolded when emergency responders were summoned to the residential hall last Saturday after receiving a report about an “unconscious student,” as noted by UCSB spokesperson Kiki Reyes.

Despite the efforts of medical personnel at the scene, Gromotsky was ultimately pronounced dead. Specific details were not released but the university stated foul play is not suspected in the student’s passing.

Expressing condolences, Reyes stated, “Our hearts and deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of the student who passed away on campus this past week.”

The university acknowledged the emotional toll of the situation and assured support for those affected by the tragedy.

The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Gromotsky’s death. Pending results from a toxicology report, additional information will be disclosed upon the conclusion of the inquiries.

In light of the distress caused by the event, UCSB has made resources available to aid students, staff, and faculty members in coping with grief. The university encourages individuals impacted by this loss, as well as other challenges, to engage with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) for support by contacting (805) 893-4411.
