Lexus SUV Struck by Honda Accord on Cabrillo Blvd.
At 7:53 PM on Thursday (June 6), a call was dispatched to SBPD and the Santa Barbara Fire Dept. of a collision near Calle Ceasar Chavez on Cabrillo Blvd.
The female of a Lexus SUV traveling toward Calle Puerto Vallarta attempted to avoid a collision with a silver Honda Accord parked on Cabrillo. The silver Honda was parked facing East and attempted to make a Westbound U-turn hitting the Lexus. This was a failure to yield by the Silver Hondas driver, who punched the gas pedal trying to correct a hasty U-Turn
The male driver of the Honda accelerated in an attempt to avoid the collision while the driver of the Lexus hit the brakes. Both drivers made eye contact just before the impact.
The front corners of both cars made contact sending the Lexus spinning over the sidewalk on to the lawn at the Hilton Hotel, formerly the Fess Parker Double Tree.
The driver of the Lexus reported feeling pain in her knee and neck. A family member arrived and was able to move the car to a location where a tow truck could have easier access to it.
The Lexus had enough damage to cause some kind of oil leak. The driver was taken by family to the Cottage E.R. in Goleta. No other details about both drivers were available at that time.

Geo – thanks for the followup! Your participation is much appreciated…
Fixed the head hurting problem 🙂

Sometimes You guys are the proofreaders. We all benefit from each others support, much appreciated. Thanks, bicyclist. I asked Edhat to add the critical line of code that states the ” parked to U-Turn” factor of this story.
Geo – dude, rest assured I/we’ve got your back on the “proofreading” ?. You’ve still got the hard part; getting to the “scene of the crime”/incident within sufficient time to discern timing of gathering photo/video “evidence” as well as possible “witness/actor” statements (that’s a lot right there alone). Glad you were able to persevere!

Wow, this story is sort of convoluted. Was the car that the speeding lexus was about to hit parked or moving? And how did this eye contact happen, and what is the relevance to the story? The pics are good, I’ll give it that but the story is strange….
I’d read this 25 mins after it was posted, made my head hurt trying to figure out what… Parking is only on the “Ocean side” (not going to dispute the N/S E/W thing)? …head still hurts 😉
Yeah it makes little sense, but what is clear from the photos is that speed was a major factor! I’m glad that no innocent people on the sidewalk or grass were injured or killed by this wreckless driver.
Reckless, certainly, but not wreckless!
Yeah, fast reporting may have led me to leave out a crucial detail. The silver Honda was parked facing East and attempted to make a Westbound U-turn hitting the Lexus. The driver of the Lexus was traveling East when she hit the breaks she saw the other drivers face just before the crash. She stated she “..made eye contact…”
This was a failure to yield by the Silver Hondas driver, who punched the gas pedal trying to correct a hasty U-Turn. This could have been a Head-on crash, the damage shown in the photos speaks volumes.
I do try to cover the Who, What, Where, When, and possibly Why and How. Hopefully the pictures help in describing the U-Turn nature of this collision.
Keep it all good in the hood. In this case both vehicles hoods were badly damaged. Hope both parties are Okay.
It’s been corrected. All writing needs proofreading, corrections, reviewing. I’m only one person. I prefer to be stressed than depressed, that’s why I attended college for over 20 years.
Keep it all-Good-in-the-neighborhood. Peace.
