FISHNSURFN - right? I'm so sick of murderers and rapists not following our anti-murder and anti-rape laws! So stupid. We should just abolish laws since criminals don't follow them. Right? Yeah!

I don’t think it’s fair to compare firearm ownership with murder and rape. There is a big difference between laws against hurting people and laws that infringe on constitutionally recognized human rights. Having said that, I’m glad these bad guys were arrested and I appreciate the hard work and dedication of our local law enforcement professionals who took them off our streets.

CHIP - gun ownership is a human right? No. It's not. It's constitutionally protected but it's not a "human right," the way access to healthcare, clean water, freedom from slavery, etc etc are human rights. That sort of thinking is why we're in such a mess.

Second, laws preventing felons from owning guns does not infringe on the 2nd Amendment. Nor do laws limiting the types fully automatic weapons or high capacity magazines. Just like the 1st Amendment, the 2nd can be LIMITED without violating it. I know you republicans think the constitooshun gives you rights to do and say whatever the hell you want, but our forefathers wrote it with sensible limits in mind. There were FAR smarter and more responsible than our leaders are today. We should be thankful for that!

Fish, if your comment is sarcasm I am on board with it. We need to remember that without gun laws these people would not have been subject to arrest and prosecution. The fact that they violated the laws gives society a chance to get the guns and those who carry them out of the way. So it is not so much that the laws are ignored by bad people as that bad people can be brought to bay when they do so.
