Santa Barbara County Fire Department and allied agencies rescued two people Sunday after rising tides trapped them against coastal rocks near the 6700 block of Del Playa Drive in Isla Vista.

Crews were dispatched around 12:43 p.m. on May 17 to a water rescue in the area and asked the public to avoid the scene to allow emergency operations.

Firefighters deployed a high-angle rope system from the bluffs while Boat 10 launched from Goleta Beach.

A drone was used to help locate and monitor the victims during the rescue.

Both individuals were safely hoisted to higher ground. They sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment, officials said. U.S. Coast Guard personnel responded but were canceled upon arrival.

Authorities urged caution near coastal cliffs and shoreline areas during elevated surf and changing tide conditions.

Further updates, if needed, will be provided by Santa Barbara County Fire.
