Two Men Charged with Stealing Firefighter Gear

Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce E. Dudley announced today that multiple criminal charges, including the theft of property from a fire department offering mutual aid during the Thomas Fire, have been filed against Joshua Raymond Campbell, age 18, of Carpinteria, and Michyl Zecharyah Jordan, age 25, of Santa Barbara, for the possession of stolen property with a value exceeding $950, belonging to the Manteca Fire Department, a violation of Penal Code section 496(a), a felony.   The defendants were arrested by the Santa Barbara Police Department on December 18, 2017 in association with a police pursuit of a stolen vehicle.   Both defendants were additionally charged with possession of stolen property with a value not exceeding $950 from Alpha Thrift Store, in violation of Penal Code section 496(a), a misdemeanor, and possession of burglary tools, in violation of Penal Code section 466, a misdemeanor.

In addition, Mr. Campbell was charged with unlawful taking of a vehicle, in violation of Vehicle Code section 10851(a), a felony; evading an officer with willful disregard, in violation of Vehicle Code section 2800.2(a), a felony; leaving the scene of an accident causing injury, in violation of Vehicle Code section 20001(a), a felony; hit and run driving, in violation of Vehicle Code section 20002(a), a misdemeanor; resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer, in violation of Penal Code section 148(a)(1), a misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia, in violation of Health and Safety Code section 11364(a), a misdemeanor;  and driving without a license, in violation of Vehicle Code section 12500(a), a misdemeanor.   

Mr. Jordan was also charged with giving false information to a police officer, in violation of Penal Code section 148.9(a), a misdemeanor.  

Both defendants are scheduled to be arraigned today, December 20, 2017, in the Santa Barbara Superior Court.

On Monday, December 18, Santa Barbara Police Department Officers pursued two wanted felons in a stolen vehicle which resulted in a collision, foot pursuit, two arrests and recovery of stolen firefighter gear.

SBPD ceremoniously reunited the gear with its rightful owner.

The gear was stolen last night from firefighters from the City of Manteca Fire Department while they rested from a hard day’s work on the front lines of the Thomas Fire. The Officers at SBPD were elated to provide a happy end to the story.
