District Attorney Joyce E. Dudley announced today that Adolph Washington Jr. (age 28) and Davion Jones (age 35) were convicted on Monday, March 9, 2020 of multiple gang related residential burglaries and a home invasion robbery.

Many Montecito residents suffered extensive damage to their homes from the catastrophic debris flow of January 9, 2018. As a result of this tragedy, a large number of residents were forced to evacuate their homes and were not able to return for long periods of time.

A female Montecito resident, whose home is located in this area, was asleep in her residence on the night of July 18, 2018 when she was awakened by loud knocking on her front door.  She promptly called 911 requesting assistance, and then took shelter in a closet in her locked bedroom. While she was in the closet, she remained on the line with the 911 dispatcher.  During this time, three individuals broke into her residence, ransacked her home and kicked in the bedroom door where they found her hidden in the closet.  Meanwhile, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene and were quickly face-to-face with the three assailants, one of whom deputies believed was armed with a loaded firearm.  Two of the three suspects were later determined to be Compton Crips gang members, and the third was a juvenile associate.

Once the suspects were aware that deputies had arrived, they fled out of the back of the residence.

An exhaustive search for the suspects by many law enforcement agencies resulted in the immediate arrest of Washington and the juvenile.  With the help of SBSO K9 ACO, deputies found a loaded firearm and clothing in a creek behind the victim’s residence.  The following day, a male victim reported his vehicle had been carjacked on Coast Village Road.  Santa Barbara Police Department investigators were able to track the stolen car taken by suspect Davion Jones.  Mr. Jones was then identified by Sheriff’s investigators as one of the participants in the home invasion robbery and burglary the prior night.  Sheriff’s Detectives also located a car used by the suspects to travel from Compton to the Santa Barbara/Goleta where the additional crimes occurred.  Several stolen items found in the car connected them to other residential burglaries that had occurred both in Goleta and Los Angeles.

As a direct result of the thorough work of the Sheriff Department’s investigative team and the zealous prosecution of Senior DDA Kim Siegel and her team, both Defendants were found guilty of Home Invasion Robbery, two Residential Burglaries and Street Terrorism, in addition to crimes related to the possession of a firearm.  Davion Jones was also convicted of Carjacking, Auto Burglary and giving False Information to a Peace Officer.

The Honorable Brian Hill additionally found that the crimes were committed in association with the Original Front Hood Compton Crips gang. Sentencing in this matter is set for April 6, 2020.
