Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) is reporting two additional deaths of individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 and 71 new cases.

One of the individuals lived in the community of Isla Vista, was 50-69 years of age, had underlying health conditions, and was associated with a congregate-care facility. The other individual was a resident of the City of Santa Maria, was over 70 years of age, and had no underlying health conditions.

Deaths are reported when a death certificate is processed listing COVID-19 as a cause or a significant condition. The process can take several days and up to 2 months to finalize if pending Coroner verification.

Total COVID-19 related deaths in Santa Barbara County are now 84.

“Our deepest condolences to families and friends of those who have passed. We share your sorrow and urge our community members to practice precautionary measures to slow the spread of COVID-19,” said Van Do-Reynoso, Santa Barbara County Public Health Director.

Of the 71 new cases reported, 30 are reported in the City of Santa Maria and 13 in Goleta. There is now a grand total of 7,578 cases with 225 active cases. There are currently 62 hospitalizations including 22 in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Enjoy these low numbers while you can. When the UCSB students return we're in for dark times. First day of instruction is October 1, and move in is usually the week prior. So maybe about another month of peace and relatively stable numbers.

I prefer remain cautious and get vaccinated... that's what I plan to do for my sake and for the sake of the more vulnerable in my community.

What their is going to be inside school attendance? Ya we’ll see how many wearing a mask keeping a proper distance . Oh these younger people just don’t want to believe it still . And a lot of Trump supporters don’t believe the numbers they think it’s being exaggerated out. Just to get Trump out. Ha! It’s real folks.
