Deputies Arrest Two Suspects Related to Isla Vista Robbery

On Friday, November 22, 2019, Sheriff’s Office Detectives served a search warrant in the 6700-block of Del Playa as part of the investigation into a robbery that occurred on Monday.

During the search, detectives recovered numerous items that were taken during the robbery and they arrested two suspects. 21-year-old Heyaw Meteke of Isla Vista was arrested for robbery and false imprisonment and was booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail with a bail of $100,000. 21-year-old Jawad Hebbar of Isla Vista was arrested for accessory and booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail with $20,000 bail. 

This investigation is ongoing and updates will be provided as they become available.

Deputies Investigate Home Invasion Robbery

At around 10:22 this morning, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 6500-block of Sabado Tarde after a victim called 911 to report that he had just been robbed. When they arrived, deputies contacted two victims who said they had been robbed at gun point inside their residence by three suspects. The suspects were described as a white male adult wearing all black clothing with a ski mask, armed with a handgun; a white male adult wearing a camouflage jacket, armed with a handgun; and a black male adult wearing all black that was unarmed. The suspects are associated with a newer model BMW 3 Series that has a 6 in the license plate sequence. 

One of the victims had minor injuries that did not require immediate medical attention. The other victim was uninjured. The suspects stole two laptops, a cell phone, a wallet and unknown amount of marijuana.  It is believed that victims were specifically targeted. This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the robbery is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office Anonymous Tip Line at (805)681-4171.

Regarding the initial robbery incident, UCPD and Santa Barbara Sheriffs Department are NOT REQUESTING A LOCK DOWN of the area.  Information was provided to keep the community informed of an active ongoing investigation.  Santa Barbara Sheriffs Department and UCPD personnel are in the area and are monitoring the situation.  If any new information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects is learned, UCPD will provide the community with an update.  Please do not contact UCPD Dispatch or Santa Barbara Sheriffs Department dispatch unless you have information regarding this incident.

An emergency notification sent by UCSB at 10:53 a.m. Monday (11/18/19)

“Suspects with handguns last seen at 1023 hours leaving 6571 Sabado Tarde on foot after committing an armed robbery.  Suspects may be associated with a newer model black BMW 3 series.  Secure in place. If outside, find a safe location. If inside, lock doors and move away from windows. Avoid the area until further notice.  Update will be provided when more information is available.”

  1. What a waste of a great opportunity! Every advantage in the world – admission to a top university, a, BMW, spending money ( for guns and ammo) and this is their great idea – Let’s rob someone. I bet their parents are so proud that they tell all their friends how their sons are doing at university.
