We were riding on Foxen Road in Santa Ynez on Saturday when we saw six vultures up ahead on the road, doing what vultures do. Two flew up on a dead tree stump and I had to get their picture!

We also saw three big gopher snakes trying to cross the road! I stopped and pushed them across, so they weren't hit by trucks. It was a beautiful valley day.

Once on my way north I went to Pinnacles National Monument out of Soledad, and I made my to the top of the actual Pinnacles there. It was just before sunset and I noticed a couple turkey vultures circling me as I sat on the rock. As I watched the sunset more gathered. After about 20 minutes, 20-30 of them were circling around me about 10 feet from my head at eye level. It was unnerving. It was as if they were waiting for me to keel over so they could peck my eyes out. I calmly left the summit and made my way north.

The Santa Ynez Valley is too far for South Coast residents to visit, it's too warm, people are unfriendly, no restaurants, terrible wine, tons of traffic... You don't want to visit! :)

I like the old native American story where the sun was too close to the earth and it was too hot, so the fox said he would help and dragged the sun a bit further away and that's why to this day his tongue is black, then the opossum did his part and dragged it further away and that's why to this day he has no hair on his tail, then the buzzaed jumped in and helped and that's why to this day he has no hair on his head.

Nice photo. Love the "garbage birds" who help keep our environment clean
