Two semi-trucks became jackknifed on Old San Marcos Road Thursday evening due to wildfire detours.

A brush fire that sparked near El Capitan Canyon shut down Highway 101 for a period of time while fire crews tended to the blaze. Motorists and semi-trucks were re-routed through Buellton to use Highway 154 and Old San Marcos Road.

Just after 7:00 p.m. two semi-trucks became stuck as they jackknifed on the notoriously windy road that’s caused many accidents for larger vehicles.

California Highway Patrol responded to the scene near Twin Ridge Road and assisted with the cleanup. The roadway is currently clear.

  1. These two truck driver should be fined and forced to pay for the costs of the CHP’s time as well as a Stupid Motorist fine. Make it steep, $1500+ and put it on the truck’s owner as well as the driver. It seems the only way idiots learn is to be penalized. So penalize them. Seriously, the hairpins on that road are too sharp for small box trucks and these morons thought it was a decent option for their rigs!
