@11:03 am - The northbound entrance, is actually on Calle Real, but it's just easier to say "Las Positas" on-ramp, because that's where it used to be. That being said, I think that on-ramp is horrible.

"Endemic typhus--Alternatively known as murine typhus, this type is caused by Rickettsia typhi and is carried by the rat flea or cat flea. Endemic typhus can be found worldwide. It may be found among people in close contact with rats. It isn’t commonly found in the United States, but cases have been reported in some areas, primarily Texas and southern California."

Here are steps to protect your family and pets from flea-borne typhus. (1) Use flea control products for your pets, yard, and home; (2) Do not sleep with your pet. It increases the chance that a flea on the pet may bit you; 3. Use insect repellent containing DEET when outside; (4) Do not feed stray animals; (5) Keep stray animals from sleeping or hiding near your home; (6) Store your trash in cans with secure lids. http://www.publichealth.lacounty.gov/acd/docs/TyphusTipsEng.pdf

Several years ago, some S.B. bank tellers got Hep A from money handed to them from someone with Hep A. Lots of Hep A and Hep C among addicts/tents/homeless, and when they are handed money, and the money is handed elsewhere (drug dealers)...eventually, at grocery store, etc. We are all one, at that point. Connected by illness.

7:44 a.m., It's our health saving grace that they aren't all in one area, for disease and illness reasons. Because a large concentration of people/addicts would make illness spread faster. There's a flea-borne typhus outbreak in Los Angeles city buildings. Government officials in Los Angeles are considering ripping out all carpets in city buildings amid a typhus outbreak that has infected workers." This is due to the concentrated tent cities in downtown L.A. Tuberculosis, Hep C, etc. Spreading, and along with fire danger, the addicts are ill, can create major health crisis.

In the Case Study, Edison turned off power before the puff of smoke. Edison turned off power because of weather (heat/winds/low humidity). The puff of smoke happened later. Help for the puff of smoke happened much much later...because there was no power and 911 was not working...because power had already been turned off.

Case Study #2...and what an irony, Earl Warren Showgrounds burns to the ground, and trucks coming to help us have no place to gather.

Case Study: You see a puff of smoke near Samarkand, and you try to call 911 but it's not working. Edison has turned off the power. What next, do you jog to the nearest fire station?

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. Yes, fear mongering is based on wild exaggerations of questionable facts... ie. opinions - like noses we all have 'em and they just smell. Edison shutting power over a puff of smoke??? Call out the panic brigade!

Tents, addicts with lighter/matches, winds, high temps, low humidity...and Edison turns off the power.

Not sure why people are blaming a traffic accident on the homeless... There were lots of accidents yesterday and I'm thinking they probably have more to do with bad driving. I live a couple of blocks from the freeway and it's been hot so sleeping with my windows wide open, woke up to the sound of some serious freeway speeding last night. I don't know if it was a motorcycle or car with a loud engine, or a race, but it was loud and it was fast! My sleeping brain thought it was 200 mph, that's how fast it sounded. Scary! Glad that I didn't hear a crash do go with it. As for the homeless camps I think the city should create their own, provide spots that have safe fire pits, showers and security. If you can't beat em them find a solution that helps keep our city safer and cleaner.

I've hear that guy fly by many times. Sounds like a crotch rocket going well over 100. I would pause and listen for the crash. I think he might work graveyard shift.

To respond to one post. On ramp northbound las positas has the fence cut out with bolt cutters. You have tents inside the fence on the freeway side blocked by some foliage. Take a look if you ever drive southbound. Just glance over to the northbound side and there is trash everywhere at northbound on ramp las positas. Its homeless musical tents. When one side gets cleaned, they just go to the other side

Please report these dangerous conditions to Caltrans. https://csr.dot.ca.gov/index.php/Msrsubmit After submitting your form, contact the Mayor's office, the Chamber of Commerce, etc. and ask for a coordinated action to get rid of these camps. Goleta did it. Certainly the residents of SB can do it. You need to put pressure on the agencies in charge. Caltrans does not give SB 101 the attention it needs. Goleta seemed to get litter picked up a few weeks ago. The litter starts in Montecito and ends at the Goleta border. Either Caltrans is purposely ignoring Santa Barbara for some reason or is it because the 'wheel isn't squeaky enough" They seem to have thrown their hands up re homeless encampments. That shouldn't be. Just took a 5 hour drive and no other community in So. California had homeless encampments out in public view along our highways. Report on ramp panhandlers immediately to Highway Patrol. City police don't control the on/off ramps. But city police do handle city roadside panhandling.

The panhandlers were nowhere near this accident. They're along the offramp; this was at the onramp.
