UPDATE: At 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Santa Barbara Police stated the area was cleared and traffic was moving normally.

The update also stated the area was on Shoreline Drive, not on Cliff Drive as police previously stated.

Later the police department issued a longer statement explaining that around 12:40 p.m., Santa Barbara Police Dispatch received a call of a rollover traffic collision on Shoreline Dr. just south of La Marina Dr.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a white Toyota SUV had struck an Audi sedan traveling in the opposite direction and had come to rest on its roof.

The driver of the SUV, along with two juveniles, were able to climb out of the vehicle and were uninjured as a result of the collision. The driver of the other involved vehicle, along with her infant passenger, were also uninjured, police stated.

All parties were transported to Cottage Hospital out of an abundance of caution.

Shoreline Dr. was temporarily closed from La Marina Dr. to Loma Alta Dr. while emergency personnel cleared the roadway.

Police issued a traffic alert at 12:54 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, advising motorists to avoid Cliff Drive between Loma Alta Drive and La Marina due to a traffic accident.

“Alert: Due to a traffic accident, please avoid Cliff Drive between Loma Alta Drive and La Marina. Please avoid the area,” the Santa Barbara Police Department said.

However, the PulsePoint app lists the collision on Shoreline Drive, not Cliff Drive. It was not immediately clear whether this reflects a location update or a discrepancy in reports.

According to PulsePoint, Santa Barbara City Fire has a battalion chief, one engine, and two medic units on scene. No additional details, including possible injuries or an estimated time to reopen the roadway, were available.

Drivers are urged to steer clear of the area and watch for emergency personnel. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

  1. That sounds so much better( just a coastal section Of Santa Barbara undefined ) then the complete wrong street stated prior in an emergency text. That’s nice to know that the city sends out emergency text notices by third-party that’s not verified about anything when they have policeman all over Santa Barbara on a regular shift to verify their own or emergency services
