(GOLETA, CA) – On Thursday, September 28, 2017, Goleta residents, local businesses, and Goleta City Councilmember, Kyle Richards, came out to support green practices and alternative transportation with a new bike fix-it station in the City of Goleta.

Santa Barbara County is continually pushing for methods to become more sustainable, environmentally conscious, and bike friendly. The Towbes Group and Willow Springs Apartments took the next step by providing a bike fix-it station with free access for residents. The Bike Fix-It Launch promoted alternative methods of transportation for all ages. Bicycles were also donated to the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation and participants of United Way of Santa Barbara. After receiving helmets from the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition, the recipients were taught the rules of the road and how to be safe when riding bikes through the COAST safety town training course.

The bike fix-it station, provided by The Towbes Group, is reaching a particular need within the community and City of Goleta. Goleta City Councilmember, Kyle Richards, commented, “This type of project will allow our city to become more sustainable.” The station offers all of the tools needed to maintain, repair, and improve personal bicycles.

Within a mile of the University of California, Santa Barbara campus, Willow Springs Apartments has a connecting bike path and gate that promotes alternative transit to working residents and students. The Towbes Group President, Craig Zimmerman explained, “64% of our [Willow Springs] residents work within 5 miles of their homes, we really appreciate that and we want to continue to support the green efforts here in the city [Goleta, CA].”

Bike fix-it stations are currently being installed in commercial and residential properties that are managed by The Towbes Group across the central coast as part of their Towbes Green program.
Towbes Green is an initiative of the Towbes Group, dedicated to utilizing best green practices in the areas of waste, resource efficiency and transportation.
