Three Teenagers Arrested in Connection with Fatal Bohnett Park Shooting in Santa Barbara

More than three months after a deadly shooting at Bohnett Park claimed the life of a Santa Barbara man, police have arrested three suspects—including a juvenile—following a coordinated multi-agency operation spanning three cities.

The Santa Barbara Police Department announced Thursday, June 4, that detectives had identified multiple suspects believed responsible for the February 20 shooting death of 29-year-old Luiz “Louie” Terrazas.

Arrest and search warrants were executed June 4 in Ventura, Camarillo, and Santa Barbara with assistance from the Ventura Police Department, Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, and Santa Barbara District Attorney’s Office.

All suspects were apprehended without significant incident, police said.

The Suspects

Jimmy Alexander Mora Jr., 18, of Ventura, was arrested on charges including first-degree murder with special circumstances, attempted murder, conspiracy, and multiple weapons-related offenses. The charges include gang enhancements.

Jorge Hurtado, 19, of Camarillo, faces identical charges: first-degree murder with special circumstances, attempted murder, conspiracy, and weapons-related offenses, all with gang allegations.

A juvenile suspect was also arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon for the benefit of a criminal street gang, conspiracy, and weapons-related charges.

The Shooting

Officers responded to Bohnett Park at 1200 San Pascual Street in Santa Barbara’s westside neighborhood at approximately 1:31 a.m. on February 20 after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Terrazas suffering from a gunshot wound, along with a second uninjured victim at the scene.

Officers immediately began life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. Terrazas was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where he died despite emergency treatment.

Investigators initially believed the suspects fled before officers arrived, possibly in an unknown model vehicle. Forensic specialists from the California Department of Justice assisted with evidence collection, and the 1200 block of San Pascual Street remained closed until approximately 11:45 a.m. that morning.

Investigation and Arrests

Santa Barbara Police Department detectives spent more than three months following leads, gathering evidence, and conducting interviews to identify those responsible.

“Their unwavering commitment to seeking justice and holding those responsible accountable was instrumental in bringing this investigation to its current stage,” the department said in its announcement.

The gang-related charges filed against all three suspects confirm what investigators had initially declined to determine—whether the shooting was connected to gang activity.

Police emphasized that the coordinated operation “highlights the strong partnerships and collaborative efforts among local law enforcement agencies and demonstrates a shared commitment to public safety and the pursuit of justice for the victims and their families.”

Remembering Terrazas

Following the shooting, family and friends described Terrazas as a beloved figure in their lives. A car wash fundraiser was held March 1 to help cover funeral expenses, and a GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $20,000 for his son.

“Louie was more than a friend to us—he was family,” organizers wrote. “He was funny, caring, hardworking, and fiercely protective of the people he loved.”

Terrazas is survived by his son, mother, and siblings.

Previous Legal Troubles

Terrazas had previously been involved in a high-profile legal case stemming from a fatal stabbing during the 2025 Fiesta weekend on State Street. In that incident, 30-year-old Anthony Bisquera-Hartley died and two others were injured.

Terrazas was originally charged with attempted murder with gang-related allegations and personal use of a knife. He pleaded not guilty and denied the enhancement allegations.

Prosecutors had initially charged two other men, Sergio Rivas, 30, and Juan Fernando Rios, 28, with murder in Bisquera-Hartley’s death. However, those charges were later dropped after newly obtained video evidence showed Bisquera-Hartley was armed and had assaulted the two men, who acted in self-defense, according to prosecutors.

The charges against Terrazas were also dismissed, though prosecutors subsequently filed a new felony case charging him with assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and an enhancement for personal use of a deadly weapon. Terrazas pleaded not guilty and denied those allegations. The status of that case at the time of his death was not immediately clear.
