Three Injured in Major Head-On Traffic Collision

Three people sustained serious injuries in a multi-vehicle head-on collision near Santa Maria.

At 1:10 p.m. Thursday, Santa Barbara County and Santa Maria City firefighters with ground ambulances and an Air Support Helicopter responded to the 2600 block of Mahoney Road west of Santa Maria. 

Crews discovered three vehicles involved in a collision with heavy extrication required to reach the motorists inside. 

The roadway was closed in both directions as crews responded to the incident.

In the first vehicle there were two adult females, one with major injuries who was transported by helicopter to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and the other with minor injuries transported by ground to Marian Regional Medical Center.

In the second vehicle was a solo male occupant who sustained major injuries. He was transported by ground ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center.

The third vehicle crashed approximately 10 feet over the side of the roadway with one female occupant who did not sustain any injuries, but was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

The roadway reopened several hours later.
