Thomas Fire Smoke Seen from Gibraltar Road

Smoke can be seen from a flare up within the Thomas Fire containment off Gibraltar Road on Friday morning.

At 8:25 a.m., Santa Barbara Fire Captain Dave Zaniboni stated, “residents can see a plume of smoke from the interior of the Thomas Fire in a deep drainage off Gibraltar Road. We’re unable to get hand crews into the location of the flare-up but crews will be making their way later this morning.”

A helicopter from the Santa Barbara County Air Support out of the Santa Ynez Valley will be making water drops to hold the fire in check.

The flare-up is well in the interior of the fire zone, away from the perimeter, and there is no threat of spreading, said Zaniboni. 

Smoke and aircraft will be visible most of Friday morning.

Vegetation fire near 2930 Gibraltar Road, possibly in the burn area. They were investigating a call out, it just went over the scanner.
