A local family-owned hotel along the scenic West Beach area of Santa Barbara is reaching out to the community in an appeal for the return of a cherished piece of wall art, stolen in the quiet of night from their establishment.
The theft occurred on September 25th at approximately 12:30 am, when an individual was captured on surveillance cameras skulking around the hotel property located in the popular Waterfront district.
The suspected thief appeared to ascend onto the roof before committing the act of theft, which included a hand-painted piece of wall art and a scarecrow owl, both prized possessions of the hotel owners.
The artwork holds irreplaceable sentimental value for the family as it was hand-painted by the matriarch of the family, a beloved grandmother and long-time supporter of the arts who enjoys painting as a hobby.
Since the artwork has more sentimental value than monetary, charges will not be pursued by the hotel, only wishing to be reunited with the art piece.
The suspect is described as a white male, presumed to be in his mid-60s to 70s, with white hair and a beard. Distinctive features of the suspected art thief include a blue bandana worn on his head, a long-sleeved blue sweatshirt, dark blue jogger pants, black sandals paired with white socks, and a cream-colored scarf. Surveillance footage shows him walking along Castillo Street, between Cabrillo Boulevard and Mason Street.
Anyone who may have seen the artwork or the individual in question is urged to contact local authorities.
SB ACT has also been notified, in case the individual is experiencing difficulties and is need of their services, anyone can call at (805) 259-4692.
The Santa Barbara community is hopeful that the shared effort to recover the stolen pieces will be fruitful, and encourages vigilance and support in these trying times for the family business.
What a loser. Stealing property. And wearing funky sandals with socks? This clown need to get caught and presented to the public for what he is.
Every camera on the property is blurry. There is no excuse for that. Quality camera are inexpensive.
The real crime here is wearing socks and sandals. Get this guy off the streets!
Thous Shalt NOT Steal!
One of the most basic….
I’m glad they posted this on Edhat. Certainly someone will recognize this scumbag and turn him in. I hope the art piece is recovered intact.
