From June 19 to 21, locals and visitors from across the nation will take over the streets of Santa Barbara for its 52nd annual summer solstice celebration.

The Santa Barbara Summer Solstice Celebration attracts around 100,000 attendees per year, making it the county’s biggest arts and culture event historically.

The annual celebration starts with a kickoff party on Friday at Alameda Park, followed by a four-hour-long parade on Saturday afternoon, before transitioning back to Alameda Park for the festival.

During the days-long celebration, attendees can expect to see a diverse variety of musical performances, vendors, dancing, and floats, among other fun, creative displays.

The multitude of festivities is always centered around a theme. In 2026, the theme of the celebration is ‘Wave.’

Locals and visitors are encouraged to arrive at Alameda Park around 4 PM on Friday, June 19, for a “kickoff party” to begin the festival.

The opening parade is set to kick off at 12 PM on June 20 at the intersection of Ortega and Santa Barbara Streets.

As with many parades, attendees can expect to see a variety of new artists, performers, and floats this year.

But Santa Barbara’s summer solstice parade stands out. No symbols, logos, or words are allowed on any floats, performers’ outfits, or other creative displays.

This rule was created by organizers to promote the parades’ “people-powered and people-created“ approach. The organizers solely want attendees’ attention to be on the performers’ talents and hard work.

While traveling the route, guests will pass by notable sites like the Santa Barbara Courthouse, the Santa Barbara Historical Museum, and the Presidio.

On Saturday, the parade will begin with the festival continuing at Alameda Park from 12 PM to 8 PM.

The celebration will again feature the FUNtopia zone. The zone will still feature kid-centered and family-friendly activities, but the zone has been expanded upon since last year. It will be open from 12 PM to 6 PM at Alameda East.

Like last year, performers will take to the SB Bowl Community Stage to dance, sing, play instruments, and introduce attendees to various cultures.

Sunday, or Reggae Sunday as the festival’s website calls it, will feature a variety of local reggae bands playing songs on the park’s stage from 1 to 7 PM.

On both days, food and merchant vendors will be situated across the park.

The parade and the festival are free to attend and watch. Guests will only have to pay for any food or merchandise they are interested in.

Additionally, the parade offers VIP seating for $65 a person. The VIP seating comes with free drinks and snacks.

  1. 100K visitors coming in for Solstice? Really? That seems way high. There are only a little over 5000 hotel beds in town. You know you can’t count residents who live here as “people coming into Santa Barbara to visit”, right?

    • Who the flip cares? Why are you freaking out about the number they said? You’re not affected in any way and neither is anyone else on this planet. This is literally the most useless rant ever.

Plus, you ever stop to even think that number includes people from Goleta, Carp, and other nearby cities that won’t be spending the night in hotels? Of course not. You see a headline, flip out for no reason and then take time out of your day to complain without ever even reading the article or thinking more than 1 second.

For heck’s sake bro, quit yer damn crying for once!

    • dude have you ever, EVER gone to the solstice celebration? for every year that I have attended or participated or volunteered, its been at least 100k people from out of town/out of the area. this festival is spoken about globally.

    • not everyone wants to come to SB and pay grossly overpriced crap hotel rooms for an event that ends (mostly) at 8pm on the same day as the main event. sunday events are generally boring compared to saturday and by sunday its mainly locals.

    • You are correct. The solstice website itself says it expects 50k visitors and 100k spectators (so 50k ‘locals’)

June 19-21, 2026 in Santa Barbara, 50,000 people come to our free 3-day Festival! The Parade on Saturday brings 100,000 spectators to the people-powered, people-created celebration of life, creativity and community!

  2. In your updates tell people the parade is SATURDAY not Friday. Also tell them that for almost 50 years the parade went down beautiful wide and open State street. Tell them it will now be crammed into Santa Barbara St. Tell them this is done to further the city councils warped agenda. Tell them that they will be able to witness some of our finest parking lots and closed buildings. Tell them they will miss our architecture, the hundreds of shops that pay the taxes to support the city. Please if your going to write an accurate article get the date, the location and the back story correct. Oh BTW the Solstice parade web site shows state street on its opening page.

      • not really, the poster made some pretty striking comments and opinions that are shared with many locals, and is right about what they said. bring the parade(s) back to State street! SB street is awful, no shade, no shops, no place to get a cold drink or buy a snack other than Rudys.

        • KNEIN – also Playa Azul. It’s where we get margaritas every year to watch it since it’s been on SB. Also, Paninos. Also, Jill’s Place. Also, Kunin wines. Also, Handlebar Coffee. Also, the pastry shop I can’t remember.

I get it, you want State open. But are you seriously agreeing with this nonsense about people being unable to see our town’s beautiful architecture and shops (not all of it exists solely on State) if the parade is TWO BLOCKS away? People will come all the way to SB for the parade and whoops…. oh no! It’s no on State St, so let’s just stay ONLY on SB street and ignore the Presidio, the Courthouse and everything else there and then run home and not walk a couple blocks away. Seriously dude?

No one. I mean NO ONE, is going to come to SB to watch the parade and then stand around bored and not follow the crowds to State for food and drinks at some point throughout the day.

Downtown is small. This isn’t LA.

          • sorry but none of that is appealing to the masses. state has it all and more variety. this has nothing to do with the road being opened, it has everything to do with putting our norms back, giving back our heritage in the form of the community being downtown. the road is closed, so why not continue having the parades on the street? ive talked to alot of business owners downtown, majority agree with me in regards to the parades being placed back on state.
architecture on SB street is nothing to be stunned over. its boring. state has it all in that regards, and MUCH more shade, more comfortable places to sit, and WAY more places for you to sip your margs. Presidio and court house are neat when its the first or second time you see it. your last comment, well no one would need to follow if they were already on the main road with all of the shops, diners and bars….as it was for decades and a huge success. the past 6 years have been lack luster at best.

            • K – the Courthouse and Presidio are not “appealing to the masses?” They’re not part of “our heritage?” Oh, but Silver And, the new Supermoss shop and O’Malleys are LOL

Dude, I get it. You absolutely hate the idea of State St. not being open to cars, but seriously?

No one is going to leave SB without taking 5 minutes to walk to State St. Last year during Fiesta, State was busier and more full of people than I’ve ever seen in my 50 years here. I’m sure the businesses (and tourists) will be just fine.

For the record, I’d much rather watch the parade on State St., but I’ll still go wherever it is and have fun for an hour then take 20 steps over to State and enjoy some “illegal” street food and drink in the parklets outside the bars. Now THAT is fun! Way more fun that being corralled inside or in the back of some of those places like we used to have to be!

            • I agree. It makes no sense at all to close a main street to traffic for six years but not run the largest parade in town down it. If, as the article clearly states, 180,000 people will be in Santa Barbara on the day of the parade, State Street would be the only sensible location.

  3. I’d love to see a source for the “100,000” attendance figure, but I doubt any will appear. If this is in addition to locals (of which I am one), this would more than double the population of Santa Barbara, rather than just add crowds to one street for four hours. If including locals, this would mean every single person in Santa Barbara, plus an additional 20,000, attending. Anyone who thinks about this for more than a second or two will realize what an absurd exaggeration this is. And those with a memory will know that the restrictions on political slogans or motorized vehicles were intended to undermine what started as an anti-war parade.

    • My mistake. The headlines reads ‘visit’. So, that’s an additional 100,000 people. According to the article, the number of people in Santa Barbara on the day of the festival will be 180,000. Again, I’d love to see any source for this.
