A new indoor pickleball facility featuring artificial intelligence (AI) coaching is set to open in Goleta this weekend.
The indoor pickleball facility, called The Picklr, is having an event to celebrate its opening on Saturday, May 2.
The event will feature food trucks, giveaways, and opportunities to play pickle ball for attendees.
On Wednesday, April 29, three days before the event, The Picklr began two membership sales for ‘founders’.
The first tier has already sold out, but the second tier charges $197 per member. Benefits include access to The Picklr facilities across the country, unlimited play and tournaments, free reservations alongside four guest passes and four clinic passes per month.
The sports center will be located at 189 N. Fairview Ave., taking the place of the Bed Bath & Beyond that used to be there.
The building will also be open seven days a week from six a.m. to midnight.
Features and amenities
The indoor pickleball facility will feature seven courts for players. Out of the seven, two will be tournament-sized.
The Picklr is further set to include spaces with diverse fitness equipment and a shop, alongside ball machines.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to book private events for birthdays and other special occasions.
Attendees do not have to be members to play at the facility, though. Anyone can visit the center and participate in ‘drop-in’ play, league play, and tournaments.
AI Coaching
One of the other unique features of The Picklr is its AI coaching.
For $29.99 a month, members can add the facilities’ AI-Coaching feature, which gives them access to Wingfield cameras and the ERNE ball machine.
According to their website, Wingfield’s cameras are powered by AI. While the cameras do record players, they also create “engaging learning experiences” for players or coaches who want to improve their skills.
The ERNE ball machine, meanwhile, functions as a fellow player for members who want to train or cannot find a participant to join them.
With its wheels, it moves around the court and launches balls from different spots, just like real players.
ERNE machines further give users the flexibility to play at an intensity matching their skill level.
Other Picklr Facilities
The Picklr has pickleball facilities, or clubs, as they are referred to on their website, across the nation. The opening Goleta location will be the eighth one in California alone. The company also has six to nine locations in Illinois, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona.
The Picklr has the most number of clubs in Texas, with 16 scattered across the state.
There are also facilities in North Carolina, Indiana, Massachusetts, and Mississippi, among various other states.
