The Call of Home

By John Wiley
San Francisco beckoned as we flew past higher than usual Monday evening. Then the sculpted shores of Lake San Antonio reminded us of Cachuma.
Soon vineyards and fields were accented by shadows. As all of this pulled us homeward, we thought another pilot might have called me by name too. Or was it another call of home?

Jul 10, 2018 12:03 PMI forgot to mention the smoke in that last pic. We flew from The Dalles, OR (only city with its airport in a different state (across the Columbia in WA). There was a visible smoke layer the entire way. That late evening shot was an example of how strange the sky looked at 7,500' and how smoke affected the colors. Coming in over Broadcast Peak we hit turbulence from a mild sundowner and descended through a layer of hot air above the welcome delicious cool air of Home. While away we watched with concern as events unfolded here. Hope the recovery is quick as we pull together through yet another disaster. :(

Jul 10, 2018 11:22 AMNo matter where we travel, it's always good to get home. Lots of places to live where it might actually be depressing to come home to. Interesting photos, thanks.

Jul 10, 2018 11:57 AMExactly, Flicka! Even though it's expensive to live here, much less travel, there's no place else we'd rather be. I'm glad that's true for most people in places we've visited. Oz has its marvels, but there's no place like Home. :)
