Temporary Road Closure at Garden and Laguna

Source: City of Santa Barbara

To allow for the repairs of sidewalk, curb, gutter, and asphalt roadway, there will be temporary road closures along Garden Street between Cota and Gutierrez Streets and at Laguna Street between Haley and Gutierrez Streets during the weekend of February 8-9.

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The Fiscal Year 2020-A Pavement Maintenance Project will address high priority pavement maintenance needs throughout the City. The Project consists primarily of removing and replacing failed sections of asphalt pavement followed by crack sealing and slurry sealing, and replacement of sidewalk and installation of access ramps on various City streets.

PROJECT BENEFITS:

Slurry seals extend the life of existing pavements by protecting the undersurface from the effects of aging and the environment, including water intrusion. Additionally, slurry seal gives asphalt surfaces a bright black appearance, improving the roadway aesthetics.

In order to most efficiently deliver the City’s annual Pavement Maintenance Program, the Fiscal Year 2020 Project has been split into two separate projects. Construction for the first project (A), which consists of minor concrete work, spot repairs and slurry seal resurfacing is anticipated to start in early 2020. Construction for the second project (B) consists of concrete work, grind and overlay is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2020.
