Update by the edhat staff
A group of teenagers were setting off fireworks in an open field when it started a fire on Wednesday evening.
At 7:06 p.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to a report of a vegetation fire near the intersection of Via Chaparral and Salvar Road off Highway 154, also known as the “Bridge to Nowhere.”
Approximately five teenagers were lighting fireworks that started the fire. Emergency scanner traffic stated Sheriff’s Deputies had detained the teens but it’s unclear what the charges are.
Firefighters stopped the forward progress of the fire within thirty minutes at 1/8 of an acre.
There were no injuries or threatened structures.
This is a developing story.

Heard Sheriff’s Deputies were on the scene with some juveniles near the start of this fire.
Around 7:30p, crews on the scene declared the forward progress was halted. Estimated to be a 1/4 of an acre or less.
I’m so glad the authorities got their hands on the kids.
Looks like they jumped on it and knocked it down within 40 minutes.
I wonder if the teens were the ones that reported it and that’s part of why it was knocked out so fast. It was a bad decision but maybe they are owning it? I hope so!
