Teen Vaping and Smoking

By an edhat reader

I am hearing more and more about the increasing use of nicotine products among teenagers (specifically Juuls). Teens are supposed to be too young to buy Juuls but are getting ahold of products like this somewhere and using.

Does anyone know how prevalent this is locally and where kids are using their products? What’s being done to curb use? – Any local programs trying to prevent vaping? – Finally, what do people think of products like Juuls being described as a gateway drug for cigarettes? – I have heard that cigarettes will be cheaper once people are hooked and money is tight. Does that sound reasonable or just crazy?

You do realize that kids have to change into appropriate exercise wear for P.E. classes? Then they need to shower after any type of sweat-inducing or pool swimming type activity. How long a day do you think these kids should put in? If I had my way, parents would stop coddling their kids by driving them anything less than a mile each way to school. Have kids take the bus or buy them Metro bus passes. We walked to school and back every single day as kids. When we got a bit older, we rode our bikes. Part of the reason a lot of kids are fat is due to this bizarre obsession parents have to act as chauffeurs, shuttling their kids everywhere. Granted, there are predators out there. Kids should always walk at least 2-3+ in a group. Teach your children safety measures, buy them pepper spray if you think its warranted and stop with the personalized taxi service everywhere. But P.E. classes several times per day? Not feasible.

6 Some people decide to blame only one element our of the complex decision tree. Why is that?

  3. just because an item has a flavor that automatically makes it marketed to teens? I dont get the idea that an adult item ( 18+ ) needs to be flavored as dirt, or asscrack. in order to be differentiated between adult activities and teen activities. so while we are complaining that there is an adult item you can buy flavored like cereal., IGNORING the fact that kids are purchasing and using an item regulated for 18+, IGNORING the fact that parents are not teaching the difference here. IGNORING the fact that regardless of flavors, these things will still be “tried”. Regulate in your own home first before barking to have more regulation put on everyone else, everyone else that seems to be able to tell the difference between 18 and over.
