Thanks to those in the know. I'm sorry for totally doubting this report when it came out!

ZEROHAWK is wrong.. its at the Galleria location. That location at 3891 State Street had a AUD housing project proposed, but was withdrawn last August. There are already renderings etc. 82 parking spaces is small, but the location is prime for a modern, order fulfillment location. And a great strategy for moving into the old Sears location. They are already starting interior demolition in preparation.

“Small format store.” No format parking.

Reported today it will be a 'small format' store in the Galleria which has almost no parking. What an awful location

Per KEYT, a Target store will occupy the Galleria location (La Cumbre and State) in October 2018. Parking should be interesting.

It's official. Target to open 34,000 sq. ft. store in Galleria at State/La Cumbre!

The City of SB should recruit a Target to the airport property and split the tax money with the City of Goleta to compensate for the impact on Goleta.

I believe Airport property is considered to belong to the city of Santa Barbara as it is under SBPD Jurisdiction when there is need for the law...

How is Target "low income?" What an elitist snob thing to say.

I was at the bus stop today and a group a men and women were walking around the building. One gentleman had a leather notebook with a target bullseye imprint. A woman made it sound like the are far into the planning process. Something about a new MTD waiting station too. From eavesdropping I was able to understand everything was a limited selection of hot selling items. But will be a “in store” pick up location. Target cooperate website has an article titled “Sneak Peek: Target’s Plans to Reimagine Stores.” Basically a market built for the Marc apartments.

Another rumour is that Target is looking into the Sears property in La Cumbre Plaza. Now THAT would be a great location, lots of parking and nicely situated between SB and Goleta. We can only hope.

No. However, a small-format store is planned for 3891 State Street (Near La Cumbre Plaza). I have no other details.

Which is The Galleria. Do you, or anyone, have any info that the Galleria will be retail? Mixed use, maybe. I'd love more current info, thanks.

LOL! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4/27/16 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Goodbye, Galleria — Hello, Rental Housing New Mixed-Use, High-Density Project Proposed for Corner of State and La Cumbre -------------------- "The Galleria mall on upper State Street is scheduled for demolition and in its place, if all goes according to plan, will go a four-story, mixed-use project with 85 units of rental housing and 11,000 square feet of commercial space. The proposed high-density project on the 1.36-acre State Street lot owned by Watabun USA, Inc. is being billed as a “cousin” to the 89 apartments still under construction at The Marc right next door. It has the same architects and builders, DesignARC and REthink Development, who presented preliminary designs to the city’s Architectural Board of Review (ABR) this Tuesday.

where did you get this rumor? The Galleria has minimal parking and limited footage available. No way a "small-format" Target is going in there.

Haven't shopped in Paseo Nuevo in years. Urine, pan-handlers, accosted by Kiosk peddlers, etc. Definitely not a good fit for Target.

...can you imagine how many "loss prevention" employees Target would have to employ at that location?

While so many wish that Target would open a store here, this location would not work. Target would do so well in this area, especially out in Goleta. Sucks having to drive so far to shop at one.

The sad thing is that Target does know how to have a 'city center' store like they do in San Francisco in a couple locations. They carry a much pared down selection of products that cater to people who live in that area - like business people or those who would be walking on foot. Things like clothes, pharmacy, grocery, small household items. They don't operate those type of stores like they do in the stripmall or suburban environment. I haven't set foot in Paseo Nuevo in 2 years except I think one trip to the Gap and one failed attempt to do a pickup of an order at Macy's that took over an hour for them to locate.

Yeah, Goleta denied its application a few times, the last reason being "it's too red" (seriously)... They gave up after that.

:) this rumor has circulated several times around town in the past year....Target has no plans on opening a store in Santa Barbara. They have several in Ventura and Santa Maria, and Santa Barbara city management refuse to allow a store like this to open here (even though Marshals is the biggest seller downtown right now, the City doesn't see it that way...they think people still flock to Nordy's...which is not true and in fact Nordstroms is closing and reopening as The Rack. There will never be a store that would move into the old Macy's building. It was built exclusively for them, on their specs and plans. Macy's was also given a huge bonus to put their store there, on the tax payers dime. I have also heard of grocery store, a bank, another starbucks, a hotel, but none of that is true. It will remain shuttered like the other 63 or so business downtown for decades....this is Santa Barbara...
