On Sunday, February 28, 2021, at 10:43 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 1800-block of Ironwood in the Tanglewood area for a 9-1-1 call of a domestic dispute. When deputies arrived, they contacted 63-year-old Eladio Herrrera, who was sitting in a car in front of the residence. Herrera told deputies that he shot his wife, 38-year-old Dolores Reyes, inside the residence.

Deputies detained Herrera, entered the residence, and began attempting life-saving measures on the victim who had sustained what appeared to be several gunshot wounds to the chest. County Fire and AMR arrived on scene shortly after and took over care of the victim who was pronounced deceased at approximately 11:33 p.m. A Sheriff’s Volunteer Chaplain and a Social Services worker responded to provide support for the victim’s family who were on scene during this horrific incident.

Sheriff’s detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident and they do not believe there are any outstanding suspects. Sheriff’s detectives and crime scene technicians remained on scene for several hours to process evidence. Herrera was booked at the Southern Branch Jail for murder and is being held on $2,000,000 bail.

While it appears that the victim died as a result of gunshot wounds, the official cause and manner of death will be determined through a Coroner’s investigation and released at a later time. An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday and the findings are expected to be finalized approximately 6 weeks afterward.
