We managed to get this late afternoon full height zoom pic of Tangerine Falls as we flew past. It's slightly overexposed so as to reveal shadow details at the base of the falls. It looks like scrambling up the creek bed could be quite a challenge and presumably there's no path yet. The signature orange moss may be starting to regrow on the rock despite it having been scrubbed bare by the debris flow. It's surprising to see that some trees survived (including the one atop the falls!), and shrubs returning. Any chance the tree in the base pool might come back?

I made it to tangerine falls 3 weeks ago. It requires creek bed scrambling after you pass west fork cold springs turn off to cold springs tunnel. I do not recommend bringing any children or dogs as several sections are extremely dangerous and no visible trail exists any more.

I sent in a video to Ed from the experience standing at the base of the falls. The tree is totally gone.

Thanks MM. I'm imagining how beautiful and exciting it was to stand at the base, and how difficult the scramble up and back must have been. Did you get any pix? Is there any trace of that tree at the base pool? Is there any moss on the falls yet, or just bare rock?

Is the trail open to hiking there now?

The slopes above that all the way to the summit were burnt bare, so the debris flow really trashed the falls and presumably the whole creekbed far below it. I've never been on the previous trail, but the repaired one will probably be quite different at least as it nears the falls. I wonder if anyone tried to scramble up the creek before this storm. I'm also wondering how much if any new trail damage might come from the strong rain squalls we're already seeing tonight. Hope we can get through tonight without any major problems.

Great photo! Thank you for it. It will be interesting to see how the area around the falls changes as the months go along.
