A driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) after a head-on collision Sunday in Santa Maria.
The incident took place at Elm Street and Donovan Road, according to the Santa Maria Police Department.
Officers responded at 8:28 p.m. on Feb. 21, 2026. Investigators determined Vehicle 1 was traveling east on Donovan Road when the driver suddenly swerved into the westbound lane and struck Vehicle 2 head-on. Vehicle 2 had been heading westbound.
Police said minor injuries were reported and medical assistance was offered at the scene.
The driver of Vehicle 1 was arrested for driving under the influence and booked into the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s North County Jail.
SMPD said multiple impaired drivers were removed from city streets that evening and emphasized that DUI enforcement efforts will continue.
The identity of those involved have yet to be released. The investigation is ongoing.
