Public Assistance Requested to Identify Suspect

On Friday 1/12/18 at approximately 6:00 p.m. the male suspect in the provided surveillance video entered the Living Faith Church in the 4500 block of Hollister Ave. While staff was busy teaching the membership of the Santa Barbara Youth Music Academy, the suspect entered one of the music equipment rooms, stole a guitar and fled the property.

Sheriff’s deputies investigated the theft and found that the guitar was a generous donation to the Music Academy by a life-long and local musician who was a firm supporter of the students and children who attend the Santa Barbara Youth Music Academy. Staff was also alarmed due to the brazen theft during normal business hours with students on site.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking for public assistance in identifying this suspect. Please review the footage and contact us if you have any information at (805)692-5744. To leave an anonymous tip, please call 681-4171.

How many of you clicked on the image ten times trying to get the video to play, before realizing it was a screencap and the real video is at the bottom? Not me, no-sir-e... ;)

Looks like it might be a good deed by the church to a needy parishioner. Or maybe just borrowed to do the Lord's work? Sarcasm aside, is it really important from a "news" point of view that the guitar was donated by a celebrity rather than otherwise obtained? Fixation on gossip and glamor is destroying our ability to analyze the actual facts in any event.

The mention of the donor is irrelevant to the crime. Would it be a lesser event if the theft was of instruments purchased by the church from parishioner donations? Get a grip.

Yes, it's important to know that. And the article doesn't say anything about a "celebrity". "Gossip and glamour?" The musician's name isn't even mentioned. Your ability to analyze actual facts is nil.

When will people realize that wide views with security cams MUST be accompanied by close-up views, or replaced by close-up views only? Without a close-up view at junction points all you capture is a crime, not the perpetrator.

Close-up view? You want the thief to post his selfie? Try to use your noggin; you're seeing what the camera captured; there's nothing else to see. The camera captures continuously; there are no "juncture points" -- the camera doesn't know when a crime is being committed.
