At approximately 9:15 a.m. this morning, September 1, 2017, Sheriff’s deputies were in the 1400 block of Oak Knoll Road in Orcutt conducting directed patrol due to recent criminal activity. While in the area, deputies located a parked vehicle associated with 29-year-old Daniel Vasquez of Santa Maria who was wanted for violating the terms of his parole. Vasquez is currently out of custody on bail for being a felon in possession of a firearm and for possession for sales of a controlled substance.

Shortly after locating the parked vehicle, deputies observed a subject entering the vehicle. The subject was identified as being 29-year-old Cary Kelly who was determined to be associated with a nearby residence on Oak Knoll Road. Deputies searched the vehicle and located about one pound of suspected crystal methamphetamine. Kelly was arrested for possession for sale of a controlled substance and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

When deputies responded to the associated residence, they observed 28-year-old Courtnie Hayson of Santa Maria attempt to flee from the rear of the residence. She was subsequently detained and arrested for providing false information and on a $25,000 probation warrant.

Because Vasquez was believed to still be inside the residence, as a precautionary measure, Oak Knoll Road was briefly blocked and an emergency notification was sent to residents in the area advising them to shelter in place. The advisory was lifted shortly after when it was determined that Vasquez had already fled the residence.

Pursuant to a search warrant, the residence was searched and two firearms and high capacity magazines were seized. One of the fireams is believed to be a California illegal assault weapon. The investigation is ongoing.

Vasquez is wanted for questioning and for violating the terms of his parole. If you see Vasquez, do not approach him, but call the Sheriff’s Office at 805 -683-2724 or your local law enforcement agency.
