Suspect Identified in North Salsipuedes Street Standoff

The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Julian Carmona of Santa Barbara. He is currently being held at Santa Barbara County Mail Jail on a $1 million bond.

Carmona was booked for charges that include kidnapping, domestic battery with injury, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, false imprisonment, burglary, restraining order violation, and resisting.


Suspect Arrested Following Standoff on North Salsipuedes Street

The situation in the 500 block of Salsipuedes Street has been resolved, and the male suspect has been taken into custody without further incident.

Several emergency vehicles will still be on scene, and the roads in this area will be closed for a short time.

More information will be provided when available. This is still an active investigation.

On September 29, 2024, around 8:30 p.m., The Santa Barbara Police Department responded to an apartment complex in the 500 block of North Salsipuedes Street for a report of a domestic disturbance.

Over the course of the initial investigation, a male suspect involved in the incident had barricaded himself in the apartment and would not comply with the officer’s commands to surrender. Prior to the suspect barricading himself, the female victim was able to flee and is currently safe.

Santa Barbara Police SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Response Team responded to the scene.

This isolated incident is evolving and under investigation. We are requesting the public stay out of the area. There is currently no threat to surrounding residences and schools.
