The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Santa Barbara man for stalking and hate crimes in Isla Vista. On Monday, May 30, 2022, Sheriff’s Deputy, Special Duty Jaycee Hunter began investigating stalking incidents that occurred in Isla Vista. Through his investigation, Deputy Hunter learned that a suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Samuel Emmanuel Johnson from Santa Barbara, had stalked several women in the Isla Vista area over the past three months. Johnson sent several threatening and unwanted messages to the women and contacted them in person.

On Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at approximately 7:45 p.m., one of the women spotted the suspect sitting on a public bench in the 6800-block of Del Playa and called 911. Sheriff’s deputies contacted the suspect and later arrested him for stalking (felony) and hate crimes (misdemeanor). He was booked at the Main Jail and is being held on $300,000 bail.

This is really creepy SBsand @ May 31, 2022 05:10 PM - your comment, 155 minutes after the article's reference above "On Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at approximately 7:45 p.m., "? So I'm going to agree with your assessment "I wouldn't feel safe about him unless he truly is locked up for a long time." - Thanks !

Hit send too soon.

These types of crimes, even if misdemeanors, should be grounds for blacklisting a person from gun purchasing and ownership. Stop him from getting guns and take away any that he has. THIS is another way we can start cutting down on mass shooters. Stop them before they start!

Well the Felony will make it so he cannot own a firearm. I also think an interesting approach would be to have a list of misdemeanors where you lose the right to firearms forever or similar to sex registrants; having 3,5,10 year bans.

SACJON, good points on that! I gotta say that as a long time IV resident stalkers ain't anything new, they've been around LONG before the term "incel" came to be. The gig is these days they can be heavily armed, like Idiot Rodger. Sorry, can't call him by his real name.
As for counseling for these types, rarely works, but hey, a try's a try. We've had some WAY sketch dudes here in IV, Mirror Bus dude, the IV Menus guy, just sketch.
1 of the things I always say (& this is kind of weird coming from someone >35 eyars old) is if you see anyone >35 years old trying to bro down w/ young women, be suspicious. we do have predators here in IV.
My wife & I have had to intervene on some matters, basically protect a young female from a bad kind of predatory situation & we'd proudly do it again.
These predators, incel or not, they rely on young victims being drunk & that's what they target due to vulnerability.
This guy, he was just brazen & that's the good thing, it's apparent & present, so nailing him wasn't an issue. All's I can say is people, please be careful & watch over each other!

I was targeted by the IV Menus guy. He used his dog to try to lure me inside the building, and his feigned charm and friendliness instantly gave me a bad vibe. I left immediately, looking back to make sure he wasn't following me.

3 weeks later, I saw the Edhat article that he had been arrested. Still creeps me out just thinking about it. I called the detective on the case that very afternoon. Some of you reading this comment may not believe me, but the detective did. I think I fit the creep's profile.

Fortunately, I learned how to spot predators at a pretty young age, but a lot of other girls aren't so lucky. Thank you for looking out for them, Henry.

The court of public justice is no longer in session. Unless the general public is at risk, no more public mugshots! Presumed innocence is a pillar of our justice system, this new law supports that.
