Sunset Valley Road to Temporarily Close

Source: Los Padres National Forest

Los Padres National Forest officials [on Monday] announced plans to remove and replace two concrete low-water road crossings on Davy Brown Creek and Munch Creek along Sunset Valley Road (Forest Road No. 8N09) in the Sisquoc River watershed. The crossings are in poor condition and are not functioning as intended due to high water-flow events, which have carried sediment and debris that have weakened these structures over the years.

The existing concrete crossings will be replaced with channel spanning bridges. The removal of the two creek crossings on Sunset Valley Road will require a complete road closure to excavate the concrete low-water crossings and import construction materials for the two new bridges.

During construction that begins this week and will conclude by March 30, 2022, campgrounds that are accessed from Sunset Valley Road will be temporarily closed for public and worker safety. The following trails and campgrounds are included in the closure:

  • Catway OHV Trail (Forest Trail No. 29W09)
  • Davy Brown Campground
  • Nira Campground
