I got to wondering if any Edhatters could identify the summit in the first of these pics, without looking at the others. The second shows more, and might make it easy for anyone who's climbed it. Third is a closeup of people skiing up to base camp for an attempt on the summit. Last is an SB peak I call the rainbow volcano, which seems fair because I've never heard of a formal name. Can you guess where it is, and why that name occasionally seems appropriate? As you can see, the sunset colors on a lingering cloud added an impression of steam venting. Did all the scary news about the Hawaii eruption have something to do with that impression?

Summit & Volcano?

I am sort of puzzled by the questions. Where and what is it? Or are they several mountains at different times of year?

Just to re-iterate the posts below, the first 3 photos are Mount Shasta and the last is right here...quite likely, Barger Peak.

I believe the last pic is of Barger Peak. Shasta looks awesome. Turned back by a storm a few years ago but itching to get back!

I'm sure you're correct, above San Roque and at '3399 it's higher than Cathedral Peak.

Awesome photos! The third photo shows climbers on the last leg to Lake Helen where they will set up base camp for their summit attempt. That last bit is pretty exhausting with a full pack, a steep grade, and just under 10,000' in elevation. My brothers and I successfully summited in 2014 after spend 24hrs at Lake Helen. The second photo shows the Avalanche Gulch Route (aka the John Muir Route), with clouds obscuring the Red Banks at the upper section of the route. Many memories of many adventures in those photos. Thanks for sharing!

I figured Shasta would be easy to ID correctly, but did imagine that some would be intrigued by the long zoom of the summit amid clouds in the first pic. I sure was! Reminded me of Everest. I like how the last shot of Shasta with the ski area looks like a UFO landing area. :) The local peak is visible from nearly anywhere in the SB area. Anyone have a guess? Wish I'd been quick enough to grab the camera when it really looked like a volcano.

That double cone reminds me of Shasta.

First photos are Mt. Shasta, not quite sure about the local peak though.

That has to be the top of Figueroa this past February; it just has to be.

He didn't say it was only seen from SB city. It could be one in SB county. I sure don't have a clue where it is.

Oh yea :>) 'bout as good of chance of seeing Shasta from SB as there is of Fig.
