Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to a structure fire just before 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at 2053 Briarwood in Santa Maria.

A single-story wood frame home was found with smoke coming out of the garage area. Fire crews launched an aggressive attack and discovered a room designed as living quarters within the garage had contents that were on fire, said SBCFD Public Information Officer Mike Eliason.

It took twenty minutes to knock down the fire. No occupants were inside the building and there were no injuries.

An investigator will determine the cause of the fire.
