  1. Definitely need SBPD to protect us from strong arm robbery. Prop 47 already allows property thefts in Calif under $950. Many crime victims in Santa Barbara are unaware of this $$$ threshold, and are alarmed at car break-ins not being properly enforced.
Folks who’d like to defund enforcement should first review several hours of YT video on “transformative justice” process. Doubt they will then support reallocating funds to the accountability tribunals.

  2. @LEOLENNNYANDFRANKIE… the problem with this idea of “you might want to look it up” and calling people ignorant is that the goal posts have shifted a couple times now since this idea of “Defund the Police” was first proposed by the BLM group. How about you just mean what you say so we don’t have to look it up.

  3. Protestors demanding the police be defunded have said wildly different things as to what that means. So… your point is rather odd. I guess we could “educate ourselves” and only take what you say as what defund the police means… but multiple “leaders” within this massive movement have said that it absolutely means to get rid of the police. As such, You disagree with many of the protestors… maybe you should educate the protestors on what it means as you have educated and are fighting ignorance.. notably the ignorance of getting rid of the police!

  4. Defund the Police, when you drill down the verbiage, is nothing more than a turf war between the teachers unions and SEIU types against the police unions. How to carve up the the tax dollar pie – less to the police and more to teachers and social workers – just a shell game between fellow public employee unions fighting over declining post-covid tax dollars. That is why BLM suffers from contradictory claims and goals. Because it was used at a vehicle for these ongoing public sector union turf wars – just like OWS made no sense, but it did ultimately take the heat off the huge growing disparity between public union compensation packages out-stripping private sector compensation packages, that was exposed after the 2008 housing bubble crash.

  5. Did not know about $900 threshold–and now they do not even go to jail if committing politically motivated crimes? It’s the old wild west again! OMG–tons of tourists coming here along with criminals as we have seen. Lots of new gang activity attacking car contents. When will we have a real government in California to replace current “simon says” controls and authoritarian transitions– remember when we recalled Gray Davis—what about Newsome who runs a totally Dem state with ideology given him to decide things for us all losing our freedom to even ask questions without assault. Criminals are emboldened no matter what the funding.

  6. Defund the police means to re-allocate some of existing police budget to other areas, so that uniformed, armed civil servants are not undertaking the work of social workers. It’s a more efficient use of money and of officers’ time. This incident and those like it will still be paid for under even the broadest defunding. Peace.
