Ducky, I've heard that, in fact it was many years ago. Well, maybe the insurance companies figure if you leave the keys in you are asking for someone to take it.

Ducky, that is correct. Years ago, when my car was stolen, the first questions both the police and the insurance company asked were, "Was the car locked? Were the keys in it?" I had a friend (this was in a small town) who routinely parked her car in the driveway and threw the keys on the floor overnite. Car was taken out for a joyride by two teen boys who totaled it. Insurance said 'Too bad' and car still had a loan on it, which she still had to pay back since it was ruled her negligence was the deciding factor. Ouch!

This thread made me curious about something I heard once. Apparently, if you leave your keys in the car, and the car is stolen, insurance won’t necessarily cover you. Talk about adding insult to injury, that would really suck.

Nothing says ‘steal my car’ like a vacant, key in the ignition, running vehicle.
