Stolen Dog at Lake Cachuma Campground

By an edhat reader

At the Lake Cachuma Campground on Sunday, while most campsites were packing up and leaving, someone abducted our beloved dog Dante, a five-year-old, 20-pound dachshund. He is an especially sweet and trusting little dog.  He is a loved member of our family and we are desperate to get him back.  He does have a microchip.

  1. We had our dog taken some years ago and we were devestated. We never got over it and our marriage suffered greatly due to the loss of our sweet little Patches. We blamed each other because ONE of us forgot to lock the gate to her enclosure. Forward 10 years…after the divorce my Ex admitted to leaving the gate open….ON PURPOSE!!!! I still miss little Patches but her replacement has been a much better companion.

  2. This is sick and sad and I really hope you find your beautiful pup but I would also hope that cachuma doesn’t go around giving an entire log of who stayed at the campground as someone mentioned. I wouldn’t want my info being given out. Good luck.

  3. This type of theft happens all the time at public campgrounds, which is exactly why we never bring our dogs with us when we go car camping. It is so sad that the owners are learning the hard way that their pet was probsbly targeted. Prayers for you during this extremely sad time.

  4. The county has a leash law. Common courtesy asks that you respect your neighbors. If the dog had been on a leash he could not have been stolen. So I assume that you were allowing your dog to run loose in violation of the law and common respect for your neighbors. No sympathy from me.
