At the Lake Cachuma Campground on Sunday, while most campsites were packing up and leaving, someone abducted our beloved dog Dante, a five-year-old, 20-pound dachshund. He is an especially sweet and trusting little dog.  He is a loved member of our family and we are desperate to get him back.  He does have a microchip.

We were at Cachuma recently and leashes are required at all times. We never let our dogs out of our site because they could very quickly wander off, never to be seen again. We also saw some pretty big eagles up there...makes you wonder...

This type of theft happens all the time at public campgrounds, which is exactly why we never bring our dogs with us when we go car camping. It is so sad that the owners are learning the hard way that their pet was probsbly targeted. Prayers for you during this extremely sad time.

The county has a leash law. Common courtesy asks that you respect your neighbors. If the dog had been on a leash he could not have been stolen. So I assume that you were allowing your dog to run loose in violation of the law and common respect for your neighbors. No sympathy from me.

According to a more informative story on Key news this morning, the dog was in a pen at the campsite while the family was packing up.

WOW.... really? If a dog is leashed to a stake, they can easily be stolen. If the dog was not leashed, then you think it's OK to steal someone's pet? Ugh. Some people here are sick.

This is sick and sad and I really hope you find your beautiful pup but I would also hope that cachuma doesn’t go around giving an entire log of who stayed at the campground as someone mentioned. I wouldn’t want my info being given out. Good luck.

Will give it out to the police, if dog is a purebred then the theft might even be a felony. Let's see if the sheriff's dept has the resources to pursue this. I hope they do.

That's just disgusting! It's hard to understand how that could happen, though. The campground should have a record of who was staying in adjacent campsites; hopefully, you've managed to get their names/addresses from the entrance ...and contacted all who had registered in the vicinity. Good luck! ---- if you run ads in Craigslist, etc., you might want to say that the little dog has medical problems that require specific medications.

That size dog is very vulnerable to predators. If he was running around....If he was on a lead staked to something, he was stolen, which is also so sad.

We had our dog taken some years ago and we were devestated. We never got over it and our marriage suffered greatly due to the loss of our sweet little Patches. We blamed each other because ONE of us forgot to lock the gate to her enclosure. Forward 10 years...after the divorce my Ex admitted to leaving the gate open....ON PURPOSE!!!! I still miss little Patches but her replacement has been a much better companion.

Taken or wandered off? Was it witnessed? Hate to suggest it but a wild animal could have grabbed him too

That’s really the lowest of the low. Who steals someone’s beloved pet, for crying out loud?!?? I hope you get him back.
