Stabbing and Shooting in Santa Maria

Source: Santa Maria Police Department

Just after 0330 Hrs. [Sunday] morning officers were sent to the report of a shooting that had just occurred in the area of Knudsen and Western.  It appears the victim was being robbed near his home when one of the suspects shot him. The victim sustained major, life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.  We have been watching for updates on his status throughout the day and our thoughts and prayers are with him, those treating him, and his family.

While officers were at the scene of the shooting, they were contacted by another individual who reported he had been robbed and stabbed a short distance away, near his home.   This victim’s injuries are minor, and he is expected to fully recover.

The investigation into both crimes is just getting started. The two crimes are believed to be related and the stabbing appears to have occurred prior to the shooting.  Robbery appears to be the motive in both instances.  Officers are looking for witnesses that may have seen at least two suspects in the area of the apartment buildings near Knudsen and Western. Both suspects are believed to be young Hispanic male adults wearing all black.  We believe the suspects to be Spanish speaking.  We ask for neighbors in the area to review surveillance cameras to see if they captured anything that would be helpful to the investigation.

To protect the integrity of the investigation we are not going to release any other information to the community.  Updates will occur as the investigation progresses or if arrests are made.

Those with tips or leads into these two crimes are encouraged to contact Detective Sergeant Andy Magallon.  Sergeant Magallon can be reached at (805)928-3781 Ext. 2164 or by email: amagallon@cityofsantamaria.org
