Squatters at the El Escorial condo complex in the 500 Block of Ninos Drive. Cardboard was found over broken window of a vacant unit, squatters recently discovered in unit.
Lots of lawyers on this thread. Wow.
You nailed it Roger.
Squatters will go to jail, breaking and entering. Loosecannon, you comment that whats mine is yours? I say go to the park and invite some homeless to your home. My property is hard earned and frankly....mine.
Actually one of the original squatters caught in the unit recently now resides in Dwight Murphy Park..
...in response we to the article itself: WOW, what the h-ll? This can't even be debated, the squatters get booted out, maybe arrested. End of story. I'm not really sure what most of the commenters are referring to here. Anyone defending the act of breaking and entering (and inhabiting) needs to rethink.
CHICO - wowzers.... maybe you need a little break
And a review of what the First Amendment does.
Edhat admins don't like my humor. #sad
The owner just needs to show up with a loaded 12 gauge- It's within his right to protect his property.
That is true Sacjon not disagreeing with you..There are calls here where people have broken into or entered unlocked homes not their own and I'm very surprised with the amount of firearms sold here there has not been alot of Frontier Justice in fact I have only heard of one incident near the Mesa years ago where an intruder was wounded.
ROGER - yes, exactly. But, you can't use a 12 gauge to shoot squatters in a property you're not living in. Only time you can use deadly force in the home is if you're in it and someone breaks in a puts you in fear for your life.
If someone breaks into your house and you are inside armed you can protect yourself if you feel threatened and are afraid for your life. Who wouldn't be afraid of someone breaking in your house while your in there? Alot of brave anonymous souls on this board.
One of the safest High School Sports there is and everyone is happy!!
You make me LOL--but a Gatling gun might be more effective if more than one Knight of the Road has taken up residence.
Chico, your comment reminds me of Shay's Rebellion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shays'_Rebellion), in which local militia with their private guns, were able to stop an attempt at overthrowing the government---when the federal government found itself helpless to stop the rebellion itself. The end result was the abandonment of the Articles of Confederation the drafting of The Constitution. As this event was fresh in the minds of the founders, they probably included the 2nd Amendment and set up a form of form of government (representative government, electoral college, etc. ) that limited the power of mobs, since many of them felt that a true democracy could not trusted.

CHEAP BERKLEE - what do you mean? When did I say guns weren't used to quell violence?
CHICO BERKELEY (haha yeah right) - lethal force is NOT permitted to protect property, ever, in most states.
You are wrong,again.
Guns do work against intruders proven fact.
Chillin, I think you meant to write "ye merry olde". Also, you forgot to mention the pillories and stocks. How else will they sit still when you pelt them with tomatoes?
COASTWATCH - it's concerning that you don't know the well established law that you can't use lethal force to protect property. It's entirely NOT within your rights to shoot trespassers unless they pose a threat to you or your family, not just your property.
@ A-161 You pretty much have an opinion about EVERY story on Edhat... With regard to the squatters, you in fact can protect what is your home... That being said, how many homeless vagrants are living in your house? Or are you just using the internet at one of our "Homeless Shelters" and opining about everything 'cause you have nothing else to do
Hear, hear. Fetch a blunderbuss to sweep the ruffians out of the property. Good old English feudal law should do the trick. If that doesn't work, maybe the merry old Sheriffe can put the rapscallions in debtors prison and throw tomatoes at them on the weekends.
Yes! Guns and violence are the answer to every problem, except maybe viruses.
For Roemer Security once in a while...Memorial day one year was 112 no breaks 12 hours I heard it.. Then I worked for WBC or We Blow Cheap..Guardsmark, J.C. Penny that did not work out to well..Wind Surf Hawaii undercover security..Biltmore 2 days. others...
Roger you used to work security at el Escorial?
Santa Barbara is going down fast. Sad to see double murders, women assaulted, a fire every week in 2020 caused by homeless encampments. I remember when Santa Barbarans and Californians wouldn’t put up with this crap. The elite love sheeple.
Irony and hyperbole don't work on sites like this. They require a SOH and the ability to analyse/think. You may have just confirmed stuff for the delusional looking at the down votes. Sigh.
Sorry-You are incorrect.
You can do your own investigation.
It’s good we spent tens of billions of taxpayer dollars on a Space Force. Otherwise the Jewish space lasers would destroy our gun stores and Applebee’s.
LAKERGIRL - Facts, huh? Well here's one for ya - no one, no time, never anywhere said climate change caused any fires. It may have contributed to the way they spread out of control, but it did not cause the fires. No one, not even Newsom, said that.
No. it was started by arsonists and homeless encampments not climate change as your dear leader Hairgel believes. You allergic to facts?
The California fires are because of the Jewish space lasers, everybody knows that. Thanks to GOP freedom fighters like Marjorie Taylor Greene we know the truth now.
I used to house sit , for a friend, few years ago.
Thought the security was good...
A lot of the people were in and out of town, for business...
Of course not you don't live there it's not your problem..
I don't need to I can tell people apart from each other...
homeless people.. empty housing.. I see no problem.
Open housing? It’s not open. It’s vacant, which has no correlation to why some people are homeless. I wonder if the squatters used their time there to regroup, rest and clean up? People down on their luck or opportunists criminals? Do you also believe all the car break ins at local parks are okay because the cars were “ open” ? Meaning they were unoccupied at the time? Yet the city cannot move shopping carts full of crap off of the streets because it’s someone’s property. But it’s perfectly fine to squat on someone’s property...
Loose Cannon -- Don't lose total faith in this city, although it's hard -- it's mainly just this website that heavily leans conservative and doesn't care about poor people. This city has problems but this website isn't a good representation of the ppl of SB
Zenyatta - sounds like anti-homeless to me. You would rather there be open housing and people on the streets. i wouldn't. *shrug*
SHMONK -Not anti homeless, anti breaking and entering. Anti arson, anti littering. Many of the people we see around need serious help, mental & physical. Yet we just leave them out there to languish. I wonder how many people could be helped with adequate health care , medications and a safe place to sleep? If we saw someone get run over by a car and they lay bleeding in the street, we wouldn’t simply step over them and go about our business. We would call an ambulance and that person would get help. How are mentally unstable people living out in freezing temperatures any different? We need to write new legislation to deal with it and enforce existing laws regarding public intoxication, illegal campfires, illegal camping & littering.
Totally agree, Shmonk. Would like to give you a thumbs up, but I can't. This site is heavily weighted towards rich people giving the thumbs up and thumbs down.
The city is going in the wrong direction because people are using real estate as investment properties and not inhabiting them. This is one of the major reasons why there are so many homeless people on the streets.
This distortion of property values could be remedied, in part, by a tax on vacant properties, taxes on second homes and pied-a-terres.
Homes are scarce. Places should not be sitting empty because they are treated as gambling chips.
Because we all know they are above the law. LOL.
I'm not anti Homeless at all I have been homeless I worked at the time and always cleaned up after myself did not light warming or cooking fires if I got into trouble most of the time I did my time, one time I even called the police on myself. Don't break the law, clean up after yourself if you have to take a crap bury it. Don't break into homes and squat, don't pee out in the open..NO ONE FOLLOWS THE RULES AND IT FUDGES IT UP FOR EVERYONE. Not a pepe out of homeless activists unless of course somehow they have been offended then it's "HOW DARE YOU!" Or when there is money to be given out they are front row and center them smiling real big...The Homeless hardly see any of that money The good Homeless that actually need help get treated like poop..The town turns into shit the ACLU comes in and blames the residents of the town. The never ending insanity involving the business of homelessness...
