Construction Update

Closures

  • Southbound Highway 101 off-ramp at Linden Avenue
    • temporarily closed – details below
Linden Avenue
  • Overcrossing
    • Crews will continue to install wood forms and pour concrete for the retaining walls adjacent to the new overcrossing. Grading of soils near the new structures will also occur.
  • Linden Avenue, Ogan Road, and Old Linden Avenue (near Nipomo Drive)
    • Frontier Communications will have utility work in the area and on the overcrossing throughout the week. Flagmen will be directing traffic as needed between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm. (When school starts on August 26th, flaggers will pick up at 2:30 pm on weekdays.)
  • Roundabout & New Northbound Highway 101 On-ramp at Linden Avenue
    • Crews will continue rough grading of soils, placing roadway base material, and working on drainage improvements.

Via Real

  • Crews have completed wall sections for this stage of work on Via Real between Casitas Pass Road and Linden Avenue. Crews will continue to backfill soil near the new wall sections. 
  • Crews will begin grading, placing roadway base material, and forming and pouring concrete for new curbs and gutters for the new Via Real connection between Casitas Pass Road and where the new roundabout will be constructed.
  • Via Real is closed from Casitas Pass Road to the old northbound Highway 101 on-ramp. Local residents have one-way access to Hales Lane on Via Real (entering from Casitas Pass Road and exiting on Vallecito Road). 
    • Pedestrians can use the sidewalk on Via Real, but please refrain from entering the construction area.
  • Crews will also be working on a new access connection to Carpinteria Creek Park.

Highway 101

  • Sound Walls
    • Northbound Highway 101 between Linden Avenue and Franklin Creek (behind Nipomo Drive)
      • Grading is complete and temporary fencing has been removed.
    • Southbound Highway 101 between Franklin Creek and the off-ramp at Linden Avenue
      • The temporary fencing has been removed.
  • New drainage improvements are being installed along southbound Highway 101 between Franklin Creek and Casitas Pass Road.
Casitas Pass Road
  • Crews are finishing up barrier work and will begin work on the median planter. 

Ongoing Temporary Closure

  • Southbound Highway 101 off-ramp at Linden Avenue
    • The Highway 101 off-ramp at Linden Avenue is closed for approximately 6-9 months. Crews will build a new off-ramp along with extensive drainage improvements, new retaining walls, and safety barriers (see rendering below). Please use the off-ramps at Reynolds Avenue or Casitas Pass Road to access the beach and downtown Carpinteria (see detour map below).
