The southbound Gaviota Rest Area, located south of the Gaviota Tunnel on US 101, has officially reopened and is open to all travelers.

The southbound Gaviota Rest Area was closed to facilitate the progress of an emergency retaining wall project north of the rest area.

Due to ongoing construction activities near the southbound Gaviota Rest Area, the rest area is subject to intermittent closures.

The contractor for this $5.6 million project was Specialty Construction of San Luis Obispo, CA.
