A new sandwich shop is moving into the former space of Rincon Brewery in the Funk Zone. The brewery had recently closed its operations.
South Coast Deli is opening at 205 Santa Barbara Street in the Funk Zone. While the business did not share official date of opening, the South Coast Deli announced the news on its website that it was ‘coming soon to the Funk Zone.’
Been in operations for nearly 35 years, South Coast Deli has been known for its sandwiches and salads, as mentioned on their Facebook page.
According to South Coast Deli’s website, the Funk Zone location will be operational from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and will be closed on Sundays. It will also offer pickup, delivery, and catering services at all of its locations.
In January 2023, South Coast Deli announced the closure of its Chapala Street location after operating there for 15 years.

Additionally, the business noted at the time that it was looking for its next opportunity.
Founded in 1991, South Coast Deli became Santa Barbara’s one of the beloved spot over the years.
The business currently operates at three other locations in Carrillo, San Roque, and Goleta, besides the Funk Zone.

In April 2021, South Coast Deli expanded to Upper State Street with its San Roque location.

Its menu includes selection of items such as chicken, turkey, beef, pork, and plant-based sandwiches. Its lineup also features specialty sandwiches paninis, and breakfast options, along with a variety of salads such as Caesar, Cobb, and Asian greens.

The offerings also include vegetarian, vegan, and pescatarian choices, catering to a range of preferences.
The new opening follows the closure of Rincon Brewery’s Funk Zone location, which closed its doors permanently on March 1, 2026. The brewery, which was known for its craft brewery and casual setting, described the closure as “bittersweet,” marking the end of its presence in a space that had long served as a community gathering spot. The location was known for hosting number of social and local events over the years.
