Our enchanting town of Solvang, known as “The Danish Capital of America,” has secured the prestigious title of the country’s second “Best Christmas Town” in the 2024 Newsweek Readers’ Choice Awards.
This accolade positions Solvang in the esteemed company of other festive marvels, including the winner Grapevine, Texas. Solvang was followed, in order, by Healdsburg, California; Fredericksburg, Texas; Santa Claus, Indiana; Santa Fe, New Mexico; Aspen, Colorado; Frankenmuth, Michigan; Leavenworth, Washington; and Prescott, Arizona.
The results, which saw Solvang ascend to near the pinnacle of festivity and holiday joy, were announced after a spirited voting round that captured the hearts and imaginations of Newsweek readers across the nation.
Nominated by both travel experts and Newsweek editors, Solvang was propelled to the awards’ lofty ranks due to its deep-rooted yuletide spirit and Danish-inspired festivities. In late August, readers were invited to cast their votes, which concluded in late September, paving the way for Solvang’s remarkable achievement.
Randy Murphy, Solvang City Manager, expressed his excitement: “With the Solvang Julefest just on the horizon, this recognition from Newsweek serves as both an honor and a catalyst to elevate our beloved holiday celebration. We are dedicated to making this year’s Julefest the most ‘Christmassy’ one yet!”
One of the California Central Coast’s largest holiday event productions, Solvang Julefest will run this season from November 29, 2024, through January 5, 2025.
Newsweek’s Readers’ Choice Awards highlight outstanding destinations and experiences, with up to 20 nominees in each category put forth for public vote. Nominees are chosen through editorial insight and recommendations from travel experts, with readers making the final call.
