Solvang Named One of The Most Festive Towns in the US

With December in full swing and Mariah Carey befittingly on repeat in every Mall across the states, Global Travel site Big 7 Travel has officially released The 25 Most Festive Towns in the US

The towns were ranked according to their holiday decorations, light displays, unique festive activities, and craft fairs. Additionally on their overall scenic beauty from idyllic villages with snow-capped mountains views to the big city lights of Las Vegas.

Solvang, Santa Barbara County’s very own Nordic village, was named 19th on the list of festive towns. In 1911, a group of Danish-Americans purchased 9,000 acres of the surrounding Rancho San Carlos de Jonata, to establish a Danish community. In 1947, the community took on its distinctive Danish-themed architecture marking it a prominent tourist destination.

A Nordic winter solstice event with dancers, music, and a procession takes place every year in Solvang. Julefest, a month-long Christmas celebration in this hamlet in the heart of Santa Ynez’s wine country, takes place every December. Denmark’s Christmas Market Light Show, Tree-Lighting Ceremony, Julefest Parade, and Candlelight Tours are just a few of the holiday activities on offer during the Danish-style celebration.

The top three festive towns in the U.S. have been ranked as Santa Claus, Indiana for 1st place, Greenville, South Carolina for 2nd place, and Williamsburg, Virginia for 3rd.
