We may not have a super bloom this year, but the Tule Elk are out in large herds at Carrizo Plains.  We counted over 70.  On the road we passed Bison.  One was scratching his back.  Not sure if Ed can use this, as I just noticed one Bison is peeing.

We went 58. 166 is long, but beautiful. The roads are paved at the end coming in from 58. It is a long dusty, unpaved road to 166. I recommend doing it at least once. I thought we were safe, but todays article surprised me. Were else can you go to sleep with Elk and wake up with them? Such a special place and so close.

Carrizzo Plains is one of the (many) protected areas due to be released from protected status.

Thanks for the great pictures. It makes me want to go there. Did you drive in from hiway 58 or 166?

Love that place. I have a secret campsite there that no one goes to except for me. 35 years.
