Snow can be seen atop West Camino Cielo and Santa Ynez Peak above Lake Cachuma Wednesday morning as a strong winter storm approaches Southern California.

In the time I’ve been here there have been several sticking snowfall events on the ridge behind the city.

It's not a common occurrence, at least not at this level. That's why there's a blizzard warning.

Very nice. Should snow every winter here in SB county. Especially in back of the Riviera.

There is a couple of inches still on the ground on Santa Ynez Peak on WCC.

What you see in the photos is actually ice adhering to things that extend above the ground - bushes, trees, towers, antennas, and other man-made structures.

Yes, for pilots NWS has quite a large area of icing potential depicted in our region, and a blizzard warning for the valley & mountains. Pretty unusual to see aviation icing alerts here at 3k' like that shown in the pic. Sure is beautiful from the ground though. :)

It is a sight to behold. Weather service says we might see the largest snowfall in decades, rivaling a 1989 storm! Will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Thank you #816. Appears to be a lucrative potential for a local xenophobia museum. Then again it might bring in strangers or foreigners, so never mind.

Is there a cherry-picking or misinformation museum in town? Fertilizer components? Xenophobia?

Chip - you can be a docent at one of the local museums if you have nothing to do during the day.

We were hoping to take the kiddos up there later today to make a few snowballs or possibly a smallish snowman. Just put all-season tires on my car so I'm assuming that will be good enough as I doubt snow chains would be required. Haven't been up Gibraltar Road in a while, but I think it will be safer to go up the 154 and through Painted Cave. May even bring an ice chest with me to bring back some of that there snow!!!

Yup, Los Padres is still under the 60 day closure from the last storm. Please don't try to go have fun!

I’d check to see which roads are actually open. Last I heard, Gibraltar, Painted Cave and Camino Cielo were all closed due to the recent flooding.

Beautiful. You can see it fall from the clouds right now at the higher elevations such as La Cumbre peak.
