Small Wireless Facilities Ordinance for Public Comment
Source: City of Santa Barbara
Today the City of Santa Barbara released a Draft Small Wireless Facilities Ordinance for public review and comment. Written comments will be accepted until January 15, 2021.
The Ordinance would regulate the placement of small wireless facilities (like cellular installations) in the public rights-of-way. The purpose of the Ordinance is to establish reasonable and comprehensive standards and procedures, including but not limited to aesthetics, construction, operation, modification, and removal, for small cell permitting within the City. The proposed ordinance aims to promote the community’s interest in protecting the City of Santa Barbara’s visual character, consistent with recent FCC regulations preempting local zoning discretion. The draft regulations also outline the requirements for small wireless facilities application and installation procedures, establish the City’s location preferences and design standards, lay out the public notification procedures, and appeal process.
A copy of the proposed ordinance is available online at https://www.santabarbaraca.gov/gov/depts/attorney/news_and_documents/default.asp.

Dec 01, 2020 04:14 PMGoing to need 100s of new cell towers for 5G. Won't have to microwave your food anymore, just hold it next to the nearest tower. "4G towers were designed to support approximately 6,500 devices per square mile, whereas 5G can support upwards of 1 million devices in the same area......"More Towers — The range of 5G towers is about 1,000 feet, less than 2 percent of the range of 4G network towers. This means that hundreds of thousands, and possibly millions, of new towers will be needed. The “towers,” which are small boxes with wireless antennas, will be densely deployed throughout cities. Many will be placed on public infrastructure such as streetlamps, traffic lights and utility poles and even under manhole covers. This will create permitting challenges."

Dec 01, 2020 06:11 PMPitmix, this is very disturbing to read. I think you a reliable source of information but hope this is not so. What can be done to make this tech safer?

Dec 02, 2020 07:17 AMPlease google some links or a complete picture from a trusted source. The main thing I learned is that 5G means 5th generation and has nothing to do with 5 gigahertz frequency.

Dec 02, 2020 08:25 AMPIT - Would you agree, if proven to be safe, these new cell towers could be revenue generators for the city?

Dec 02, 2020 12:25 PMPit, fully agree....and the 5G thing is scary. I don't care if you're into conspiracies or not, the facts are present and the evidence is solid. There is a very good reason that it has been banned in most nations across the planet and even banned in SB County, so i'm not sure why this post is up. There will be no 5G in our region.

Dec 02, 2020 12:28 PMthese are not revenue generators, they are cell towers....and not everyone uses 5G. I do not nor will I. I mean really....most of us are staying at home and most of us have computers that are hard wired in. I don't need 5G wifi for a 5 block walk to downtown so I can stream netflix without buffering...that's just dumb. In fact when i'm on 3G i can stream netflix without buffering....so 5G isn't for all of us and certainly isn't for me. 3 and 4G work just fine for me all over SB county

Dec 01, 2020 04:15 PM"What is the Difference Between 5G and 4G Wireless Technology?
Many confuse 5G or Fifth Generation Technology with the 5Gigahertz (GHz) frequencies used in wireless devices. Some devices state they are 5G, but at this point in time, for most devices, it is meant to be 5GHz frequency of transmission. 5G technology has been said to use much higher frequencies (10-300 GHZ), and for the new 5G cell “small cell” towers it may contain these frequencies, but not always. Companies have realized that the shorter wavelengths do not travel as far or penetrate buildings well, thus telecom companies have purchased low and mid band RF spectrum as well as 5G high frequency bands through government auctions. These longer wavelengths (used in 2G, 3G and 4G) travel farther, through buildings and serve as backhaul for 5G short wavelengths. They are calling all these wavelengths 5G or small cell technology without being specific. They plan to put the low and mid band band spectrum in rural areas where it will travel farther. These longer wavelengths penetrate living organisms even deeper and are accompanied by an abundance of robust science showing biologic harm at non thermal levels. 5G technology along with lower frequency emitting cell antennas are now being rolled out internationally." https://mdsafetech.org/5g-telecommunications-science/

Dec 02, 2020 07:35 AMDid you know there is a FUSION REACTOR close enough to Santa Barbara that emits enough EM radiation that just 2 minutes of exposure exposes you to more then a life time of 4g and 5g EM radiation combined.
This reactor and the radiation it creates is so powerful that nearby industrial factories are building special collectors to harness the power and convert it into electricity but so far can only tap into a small percentage of the total power of this radiation.
Because of how strong this radiation is millions of tons of Oxygen is turned into Ozone every year adding to global warming.
Scientists have measured that there is almost 1000 watts per square meter of this EM radiation anywhere in direct line of sight to the reactor.
Thousands of people in Santa Barbara have already been exposed. Children have been hospitalized with burns from exposure.
Occupational health requires protective clothing be worn by anyone who spends more the 5 minutes exposed. Continual exposure can lead to death but even intermittent exposure to this radiation has been known for decades to cause Cancer and yet every day more and more children are exposed.
No one seems to be talking about this!! We have to act now to shut down this reactor! Someone please think of the children. Call your representative today and tell them that enough is enough, its time to shut this reactor down.

Dec 02, 2020 08:00 AM@PORK - your rant is long on hysteria but short on facts. Where is this ‘reactor’ and who is operating it? What spectrum of radiation is being emitted? Are aliens involved? We need some facts before we pester our representatives, no?

Dec 02, 2020 09:36 AMI would anticipate that the cable industry will work with modem/router manufacturers to basically put a 5G cell station in homes that currently have cable internet service, thus competing with the over-the-air companies without having to build cell sites.

Dec 02, 2020 10:00 AMPorkrind- Your comment has me falling out of my chair with laughter.
All the pseudo scientists on edhat were had for a while Yachtrocker. You could have waited a little more time to expose the comedy of true hypocrisy and ignorance.
Would have been interesting and enlightening.
