A small plane crash landed onto a vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley on Wednesday.
At 4:39 p.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to Gainey Vineyard and discovered a single engine plane in a row of grape vines.
The 20-year-old male pilot, and solo occupant, required extrication from the plane.
He was taken to the Santa Ynez Airport by a ground ambulance and transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital by a Calstar Helicopter.
County Fire Captain Scott Safechuck stated the pilot sustained major injuries. His current condition is unknown.
It’s unclear if the second occupant of the plane sustained any injuries.
The crash site adjacent to the Santa Ynez Airport, near its west end.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the crash.
