Small Brush Fire Sparks Near Goleta Lumberyard

Update by the edhat staff

A small brush fire broke out in Goleta Monday afternoon shutting down the railroad line.

A 1/4 acre fire sparked around 2:30 p.m. next to 35 Aero Camino Street. The smokey fire was located between the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and a lumber yard causing impacts to Highway 101 traffic.

Several engines and a Batallion Chief responded from the County Fire Department. Crews rallied to protect the nearby lumber yard business from the growing fire as it had the potential to reach three acres.

Around 30 minutes later the forward progress of the fire was stopped at a total of 1/8 of an acre.

The railroad lines reopened less than an hour after firefighters arrived on the scene.

There were no damages to nearby structures and the cause is under investigation. Crews will remain on the scene to mop up.

  1. Yet another bum “cooking” in the weeds. Shoulda paid more attention in Boy Scouts about fire safety. Whoooeee almost torching off a lumberyard, when the price of materials is increasing by the day….. seriously, is the Government waiting for a death, a martyr, before they make the decision to round up all the illegal campers and give them the choice of rehab or incarceration or a strong motivation to move on??? The funds spent on Homeless, Inc. are an embarrassment.

  2. Lucky–Sadly, I agree with the “waiting for a death, a martyr” part of your comment–that seems to be what it takes in many instances– but add residential mental care facility that isn’t a choice for those needing it. If your brain doesn’t work right, your decisions are faulty. Cases of dementia make that clear.
